Van der Valk is a British crime drama television series that premiered in 2020. It is an adaptation of the crime thriller series of the same name by Nicolas Freeling.
Produced for the ITV network, Van der Valk is a loose remake of the original Van der Valk series that ran on ITV from 1972 to 1992. The reboot was created and written by Chris Murray, and stars Marc Warren as Detective Van der Valk. Continuity with the original series is not maintained in the remake, which introduces revised and new characters and new storylines.
Van der Valk premiered in the United Kingdom on 26 April 2020 and has since been shown in the Netherlands, where it is broadcast by KRO-NCRV.
The series is made for English-speaking viewers, with a British accent. Even though it is set in the Netherlands, everyone in the series, including Dutch actors, speak English.
