The Dutch drama series Elixer revolves around Isabelle Rombauts (played by Hanna Verboom), who is unexpectedly appointed CEO of the family business Rombauts Pharma, a prominent player in the international pharmaceutical industry. After an accident involving her father Ludo (Wim Opbrouck), Isabelle finds herself at the helm, much to the frustration of her brother Luciën (Jacob Derwig), who saw himself as the logical successor.
Isabelle soon discovers that the company is embroiled in serious abuses: a profitable antidepressant turns out to have dangerous psychological side effects. In addition, her own son is dependent on this medication, which makes the situation personal and complex. Isabelle faces a devilish dilemma: does she follow her conscience and reveal the truth, or does she protect the reputation and interests of her family?
The series is directed by Dana Nechushtan and written by Maaik Krijgsman. In addition to Jacob Derwig, his son Roman Derwig also plays a leading role. He plays Art Rombauts, the son of Isabelle Rombauts.
Recordings were made in South Limburg (Valkenburg aan de Geul, Vaals and Meerssen) and in Belgium.
