The series Families Like Ours (Familier som vores) is a 2024 Danish drama series directed and co-written by Academy Award winner Thomas Vinterberg. The series is set in a near future where Denmark becomes uninhabitable due to rising sea levels, leading to a mandatory evacuation of the entire population. The series centers on 19-year-old Laura, who must choose between her divorced parents: her father, an architect who has a visa for Paris, and her sick mother, who is granted asylum in Romania. At the same time, Laura struggles with her feelings for her boyfriend Elias, which makes her choices even more complex.
Families Like Ours premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August 2024 and was broadcast in Denmark on TV 2 from October 2024. The series will be available internationally on streaming services, including Netflix from June 2025.
